As you can see from my education, it took me time to figure out what I wanted to do in my career.  Looking back I see that I was always on a journey to become a psychotherapist.  It was in my training as a music therapist that this became clear to me.  This training challenged me to look at myself in a very deep way and to start asking myself hard questions.  This was really my training ground that would provide a solid foundation of counselling skills.  After working as a music therapist with children and families, and completing a lengthy internship at a women’s shelter and with an eating disorder society, I returned to university to complete my Master’s degree.  This degree afforded me excellent clinical and academic opportunities where I was supervised by mentors who helped me to step into the world of being a therapist.   That was 21 years ago and since that time I’ve worked in several clinical settings and continued to learn from my colleagues and clients.  Professional growth has always been vitally important to me.  I’ve gained further training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and trauma,  the treatment of anxiety and depression, grief and loss, and relationships issues.  My psychotherapy work is always trauma informed and trauma sensitive.
